Near the border village of Selchow an old stone bridge became a centerpiece of a desperate and heroic struggle. The garrison charged with defending the bridge and a ford upstream of the village were surprised today by a strong Grolsteiner attack. Fortunately, Colonel Gerlach's Jagers were posted along the river near the upper ford and spotted the moving columns of the enemy in the dawn mist. A howitzer attached to the Colonel's unit made good their oft heard boast that they had "never wasted a shell", by lobbing several well placed shots into the masses of Grolstein cavalry massing around the village of Grosse Kirchbaum....and the battle was joined...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJbdPhjT3NMTcoRw4TgNCJeJHe4MHpKWu3Tuh4RGAtZRdjE3OqU6FPO47rVSSOC9gMYzrNvawHrstn5yQwyYOXdzEiHEOldAcTrDAiEz5tSrk2YIAgcR1fMPxI8yyvgeJ4PP8ej05GLo0/s1600-h/DSC05140.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; These fellows have already established a reputation with the locals in the area as a hard drinking outfit and hopefully when their training is complete a hard fighting one as well. Rumors as to new black hussar uniforms are circulating. The regiment is recruiting on a two squadrons of 24 troopers each and three additional officers establishment making them capable of splitting the squadrons for special duties or operation as a large host of light cavalry if necessary. They are being raised to counter a reported new mercenary unit of lance armed Pandours hired by the Grand Duchess of Grolstein.littlejohnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02469282002961211617noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325726701237238026.post-63363285702436215402009-02-05T16:45:00.000-08:002009-03-04T17:50:33.672-08:00Der Konigreich's High Command<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFIGuXpjzqI3hbynUGny5UnEYSwnHa6tRsNUBx3dJTMcznE7IoVkeyYDN7q70Uexoi8QP3N37WkwX3o22Pjn_a8_Y4v5Lm6FJrg64GgAsY-JBC57PsdcPoHQYnJeQZT8YKsAEsbqHazz8/s1600-h/DSC04668.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFIGuXpjzqI3hbynUGny5UnEYSwnHa6tRsNUBx3dJTMcznE7IoVkeyYDN7q70Uexoi8QP3N37WkwX3o22Pjn_a8_Y4v5Lm6FJrg64GgAsY-JBC57PsdcPoHQYnJeQZT8YKsAEsbqHazz8/s320/DSC04668.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299479431217287090" border="0" /></a>A sense of urgency surrounds this command party seen recently riding the outlying defenses of Schwiebus, the capitol of Bleiherzen. Von Pfuhlstein's facings are lemon yellow with white lace. The red hat pom-pom is standard for all of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Konigreich's</span> infantry. This unit also parades with the first issue of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Liebfannen (white cross)</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Regimentstandarte</span> (black cross) standards of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Konigsreich</span>.<br /><br />Colonel von Ludger is known as a strict disciplinarian and though a gifted regimental commander, has no "head" for the larger operational or strategic concerns of the generals. As his men often say (out of earshot of course...) <span style="font-style: italic;">"Wo unser Oberst steht, sterben wir"...(where our colonel stands we </span>die.)<br /><br />(<span style="font-style: italic;">Gaming notes:</span> Based on the beautiful images of the latest game at the<a href="http://grandduchyofstollen.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> The Grand Duchy of Stollen</a> I have gone with a "no flock" approach to basing this unit. It's a test to see if it looks better and more "old school" with a gloss overcoat on the figures. I think its pretty good. Though it tempts me to turn my flocked 4'x4' table sections over and do a straight green table surface and stacked hills more in keeping with a "Grantt/Hyde" approach to the general look of things. Since my table has the capability of being two sided...why not! On another note... I base all my 7YW figures individually on fender washers and base them 6 figures to a 60mmx40mm magnetic tray [3/32" basswod plus adhesive magnetic sheet]...that way I can play Grant rules but still be able to move stuff around fairly easily. So far this system has worked really well and since 30 figures sits nicely on 5 bases, I count 1 off the morale roll at 1/5 casualties intstead of 1/6 as in the original "The Wargame" rules... The grid indicated on the more detailed map is approximately a 4 mile grid...and the grid squares will correspond "loosely" to a 4'x4' section on my gaming table...even though this will involve some compression of scale when a battle is set up. The map I used was a section of Silesia from a historical map...but with enough detail to give an approximate table terrain for each square and reasonable march distances for campaigning. This should be a good basis for long term campaigning and intervention by the larger neighbors. The Konigsreich is more wooded in keeping with the Bleiherzlanders penchant for woodcraft and "klienkrieg"...and Grolstein is more open terrain, and more suitable for large scale cavalry operations...a favorite of the Duchess)...I'm still working out major cities and terrain...more refinements to come!</span></span>littlejohnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02469282002961211617noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325726701237238026.post-85707622746807439022008-12-23T13:02:00.000-08:002008-12-23T14:06:49.366-08:00Some New (better) Pics of the Skirmish at the Border<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRZYGk99D5JiLdBefqtBXPxlm4y4sk9LkvED4jf9KNtjALhdu3GUIGJXxR95Mqxc-948Z706KEfvH9OVTL4bExERTKBnC3BbrNjp6uT_WMCHp70qz8DKpNSVLwkSexuXvYhg9Tu8bpXIg/s1600-h/DSC04493.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRZYGk99D5JiLdBefqtBXPxlm4y4sk9LkvED4jf9KNtjALhdu3GUIGJXxR95Mqxc-948Z706KEfvH9OVTL4bExERTKBnC3BbrNjp6uT_WMCHp70qz8DKpNSVLwkSexuXvYhg9Tu8bpXIg/s320/DSC04493.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283094435264760786" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBqwMmAGQD54VhCFwBNBc2YmzhzD3tI4-8h1cA9BIC_nGjrAyiq6gW7Kf8fLgiB3YkNclwjuMP2U0b6dNJbl48TB-DXHNRX_XCgJT4j9EiBOpP7dDBc_AbU2LwV9cBUisw44SF2nAiWCc/s1600-h/DSC04498.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBqwMmAGQD54VhCFwBNBc2YmzhzD3tI4-8h1cA9BIC_nGjrAyiq6gW7Kf8fLgiB3YkNclwjuMP2U0b6dNJbl48TB-DXHNRX_XCgJT4j9EiBOpP7dDBc_AbU2LwV9cBUisw44SF2nAiWCc/s320/DSC04498.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283094430749377202" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimVDEdtaEUkdgXPWuur5aFiaeviC2MXipVNdvPyOxgmTSf3ERDon44Y7b2rgbOQwyBm7Oy3n_mNWmsl8f1LAUiWvV4OdQKtaic_SA01ulRWgpf1aC0VpF5XaYGX09LeEqUk4cKAu0u-6E/s1600-h/DSC04503.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimVDEdtaEUkdgXPWuur5aFiaeviC2MXipVNdvPyOxgmTSf3ERDon44Y7b2rgbOQwyBm7Oy3n_mNWmsl8f1LAUiWvV4OdQKtaic_SA01ulRWgpf1aC0VpF5XaYGX09LeEqUk4cKAu0u-6E/s320/DSC04503.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283094419538998498" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">The Colonel Gerlach's Jagers say "no" to the Duchess' Christmas candy...Col.Gerlach is seen here on horseback just before being wounded by a "Grolsteingrenz" sharpshooter.<br /><br /></span></div>Gerlach's Jagers holding a hedged lane against the Duchess' Grenzers (the first painted unit of Bleiherzlanders....).
